Food in Florianópolis

Florianópolis eats with one foot in the sea and one in the hills. Açorean cooking still leads on the island — shrimp sequência, tainha baked on a roof tile, fish stew with cassava-flour pirão. Costa da Lagoa, Ribeirão da Ilha, Santo Antonio de Lisboa and Pântano do Sul keep the artisanal-fishing tradition alive: you can eat oysters on the same nets where they were farmed and watch the boat come back while your kid finishes lunch.

On the other side of the economy, Floripa has become an agroecology hub. Cepagro, Acolhida na Colônia and dozens of producers from the surrounding municipalities (Santo Amaro da Imperatriz, Águas Mornas, Rancho Queimado) supply weekly organic markets and basket networks. The city-run street markets, scattered across 25+ neighborhoods, offer cheap produce straight from the grower — a classic weekend program that pays back as lunch and fits the budget.

For families with small kids, the scene has three layers: restaurants with kid space (playgrounds, outdoor area, kids menu) concentrated in Lagoa, Jurerê and Santo Antonio; neighborhood food shops carrying organic options without crossing the island; and seasonal fishing/harvest events — tainha season (May–July), crab, oysters — that double as field trips.
