Waste collection and disposal
How to dispose of every kind of waste in Florianópolis. Covers household pickup, drop-off points, and the specific services parents end up needing — old furniture, electronics, cooking oil, expired medication, syringes. Official COMCAP/PMF sources.
Regular household collection
Non-recyclable household waste runs on a fixed schedule per neighborhood. Full calendar in COMCAP's PDF, with sub-area variations.
Drop-off points (Ecopontos)
9 points across the city accepting standard recyclables, small electronics, cooking oil and more. Ideal for what doesn't fit regular curbside recycling.
Bulky waste (old furniture, appliances, mattresses)
COMCAP picks up scheduled large items that don't fit normal collection — sofa, fridge, old crib, mattress, construction lumber. Up to 1 m³ per residence.
How to: Schedule via WhatsApp (48) 3271-6833 or email volumosos.smma@pmf.sc.gov.br. Mon–Fri 8h–17h.
Electronics (e-waste)
Old TV, monitor, microwave, headphones, small electronics. COMCAP collects ~5 tons/month. Drop small items at an ecoponto, or schedule home pickup via ABREE (national certified partner).
How to: For small electronics, drop straight at an ecoponto. For large items, schedule via ABREE.
Cooking oil (ReÓleo)
Used oil is collected by ACIF — turned into biodiesel or soap. Don't pour down the drain (clogs sewers + pollutes the lagoon).
How to: Cool it down. Put it in a PET bottle with a funnel. Drop it at a COMCAP ecoponto or a ReÓleo point.
Expired medication and bottles
Empty medicine and cosmetic bottles can go in regular curbside recycling. Expired medication CAN'T — must go to partner pharmacies.
How to: Return full or partial medication to Sesi, Panvel, Droga Raia, or other pharmacies with expired-medication take-back programs.
Sharps (needles, lancets, syringes)
Hazardous waste from at-home health procedures. Never put loose in the trash — real risk for waste collectors.
How to: Put in a rigid PET bottle, sealed with tape. Drop at a UBS (public health unit) in your neighborhood.
Dead pets
Deceased pet can be dropped off free at the Centro de Valorização de Resíduos (CVR), Rod. Admar Gonzaga 72, Itacorubi.
How to: Place the body in a black plastic bag and drop at the CVR — Mon–Sat 7h–19h.
Grease trap waste (residential)
Waste from cleaning your home grease trap. Clean at most every 6 months to avoid clogging.
How to: Put in a rigid container with a lid and place out for regular curbside collection.
Lamps, batteries
Reverse logistics through retailers (stores that sell them usually take them back). Prefer rechargeable batteries.
